GHG accounting

Build a greenhouse gas inventory that can be verified.

ISO 14064-1:2018 specifies principles and requirements for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and removals at the organization level. We help establish boundaries, data methods, controls, and an evidence trail that supports a credible inventory.

Our implementation focus

Make the requirements operational.

  1. 01

    Define organizational and reporting boundaries

  2. 02

Identify relevant emissions and removals and their data owners

  3. 03

Document methods, factors, assumptions, and recalculation rules

  4. 04

Apply quality checks and manage uncertainty and missing data

  5. 05

Prepare the GHG report and evidence for independent verification

Independent assessment

ISO 14064-1 is an organizational inventory and reporting standard, not a generic ISO management system certificate. A separate, competent independent body may verify the GHG statement under an applicable verification programme.

Questions we hear

Get the distinctions right.

Is ISO 14064-1 the same as ISO 14001 certification?

No. ISO 14064-1 concerns quantification and reporting of an organization’s GHG inventory. ISO 14001 sets requirements for an environmental management system.

Who verifies an ISO 14064-1 inventory?

Where verification is sought, a separate competent validation or verification body assesses the GHG statement under the applicable programme. Normstone’s inventory advisory does not issue that opinion.
